The most striking image of St. Lucy that I have ever seen is not one with her eyes on a plate or something like that, although this image did refer to her torture by being blinded. Is is the image of a Botticelli-esque figure with a light veil draped so as to cover her eyes. It is so powerfully evocative. (The sketch belonged to Fr. Conly, the pastor of the Episcopal Church in which I was raised.)
We need light. Pray to the blinded St. Lucy for light in our world, in our lives, in our souls.
